Reiki
is a Japanese word which means 'Universal Energy', which flows through all
living things and is recognised by Eastern medicine. In China this energy is
known as 'chi', in Japan 'ki' and 'prana' in India. Acupuncture, T'ai chi and
Yoga are also based on the flow of energy in a person. The original system of Dr Mikao Usui
developed this type of therapy to
support people to bring their health into balance. It is estimated there are over 2
million people who practice Reiki throughout the world. A
Reiki treatment is not diagnostic and no pressure is applied. The client can lay
down or sit, in a peaceful environment and no clothing is removed. The hands of
the practitioner may be placed gently on or just above the body. During
a Reiki session some clients feel sleepy and very relaxed whilst others do not
feel anything at all. It is
important to rest afterwards and drink plenty of water, eat a light diet and
avoid alcohol for 24 hours. Reiki
does not take the place of conventional medicine and if you have any medical
concerns it is best to consult your own doctor. A Reiki session varies in length but usually takes approximately
50 minutes to one hour. |
