Thermo-Auricular Therapy

(Hopi Ear Candling)

Debbie is a qualified therapist with the Thermo - Auricular® Therapy Advanced certificate.

Ear candling has been used for thousands of years by many different cultures, including Egyptians. The therapy reached the modern world via the native North American Hopi Indians. Maunsell & Stokes (1997) states Hopi means ‘people of peace’ and the tribe lived in harmony with nature. Ear candles were used traditionally by Shamen healers and smoke was considered cleansing and purifying.

The candle is a hollow tube made from flax, which is infused with honey, beeswax, sage, chamomile, St John’s Wort and beta-carotene. Only Biosun ear candles are used at Aroma Here & There.

The client lies on their side and a lit Hopi candle is placed in their ear. The candle is held safely in place at all times by the therapist, keeping the candle steady and preventing any ash from falling on you. When lit, the ear candles have a slight sucking action and clients may experience gentle warmth and a crackling sound as the candle burns down.  The ear is then massaged before the client turns over for the other ear to be done.

My clients have said that this therapy is relaxing and a soothing experience.

A health history will be included at the first consultation and will be updated at further appointments.

After the ear candling a gentle ear, head and face massage is given to enhance relaxation and complete the treatment.
